With over 10 times the amount of veterans lost to suicide than to combat operations in the same time period, there has never been a more important time to TAKE A STAND and DO something to support our veterans!! Building on a legacy of service that spans more than a century, #StillServing represents the heart of the VFW and its members, and conveys what today’s VFW embodies. The VFW encourages all veterans to share stories on social media using #StillServing to show how they continue to answer the call to serve in ways big and small. In addition, family or friends are asked to use #StillServing in social media posts to honor a veteran in their lives who believes the spirit of service transcends military life.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Each year, thousands of kids compete for a chance at these two scholarships. Patriot's Pen is a 300-400 word essay for 6th-8th graders. Voice of Democracy is for 9th-12th and is a 3-5 minute reading/speaking on the subject of the year submitted on an Audio CD or Flash Drive. Both MUST be submitted to your local VA by Midnight, Oct. 31, 2020 for a chance at the 2020-2021 Scholarships. click the appropriate link for application, rules, and eligibility.

As yesterday's defenders of freedom, we want to welcome today's military service members into our ranks to become part of our elite group.  Our common bond is the battlefield, whether it is service in the Persian Gulf, Korea, Kosovo, the war on terrorism or peace-keeping expeditionary campaigns. Your courage and sacrifice have made a difference in preserving and defending world peace.

A satirical reflection by Author/Artist Phil Fehrenbacher

Phil enlisted in the Army in 1965 where he served for years in Vietnam.  He became a graphic designer and has worked for the state of Oregon for 26 years.  He retired in 2003 and started the Cartoon "In-Country".  The cartoons reflect his experiences during his tour of duty in South Vietnam.


There is a new cartoon everyday.

Veteran's Day is a chance to honor everyone that has served in the armed forces. VFW Post 1481 extends it's appreciation on Veterans Day to everyone who has worn the uniform in service to America. However, many of our veterans face challenges when they return home. Military service is by definition dangerous and stressful. Surveys show that a majority of our returning soldiers showed signs of mental health issues. The rate of veteran suicide is on the rise. If you know of a veteran who is having a hard time, please have him or her reach out to the veterans crisis line for help. Their number is 1-800-273-8255 and press 1. If we can help even one veteran through a crisis period, we will be making a difference

 Post 1481 Auxiliary hosts a Bunco Bash twice a year. Usually in April and October.
